Basket Strainers are used to trap solid contaminants from liquid streams.

They use mesh-type baskets fitted in an external strainer housing, hence the name Basket Strainer.

Basket Strainers are installed upstream of Pumps, Valves, and other process equipment.

This helps protect the expensive equipment from damage and downtime.

Basket Strainer Supplier — Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Goa & Karnataka

Looking for a reliable Basket Strainer supplier for your high-capacity pipeline filtration requirements? We manufacture and supply industrial basket strainers — also known as bucket strainers or pot strainers — to EPC contractors, refineries, power plants, and process industries across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Kachchh, Amreli, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Navsari, Godhra, and Palanpur, as well as Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and Karnataka.

Our basket strainers are built around a removable, top-lifting basket element made from SS304 or SS316 perforated plate or wire mesh, housed inside a robust fabricated or cast steel body. This large-basket design gives significantly higher dirt-holding capacity than a Y type or T type strainer — making basket strainers the preferred choice wherever the solid load in the process fluid is moderate to high, or where frequent cleaning intervals are expected.

What Is a Basket Strainer?

A Basket Strainer, also called a bucket strainer or inline pot strainer, is a pipeline filtration device where the straining element takes the form of a removable basket — a cylindrical or conical perforated plate or mesh-lined cage with a lifting handle — that sits inside a vertical chamber in the strainer body. Process fluid enters the body inlet, passes from outside to inside through the basket wall, and exits through the outlet. Solid particles and debris larger than the basket perforation or mesh opening are captured inside the basket, where they accumulate until the next maintenance clean-out.

The top-mounted, vertically removable basket design is a key advantage: the cover is unbolted or swung open, and the entire basket lifts straight out of the body with its collected debris contained inside. This clean, contained removal minimizes spillage and operator contact with process fluids during maintenance, making basket strainers practical and safe across a wide range of industrial applications.

Basket strainers are chosen over Y type strainers when:

  • The solid load in the process fluid is moderate to high, requiring larger dirt-holding capacity
  • More frequent strainer cleaning is expected, making top-removal basket access preferable to Y type side-branch access
  • Continuous, uninterrupted flow during cleaning is required — in which case a duplex basket strainer is selected

Basket strainers are used in:

  • Pump suction and discharge protection in process plants and water utilities
  • Cooling water systems, heat exchangers, and condensers
  • Oil, gas, and petrochemical pipeline filtration
  • Food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and chemical processing
  • Power plant cooling water and feedwater systems
Types of Basket Strainers We Supply

We manufacture and supply basket strainers in both simplex and duplex configurations, across a range of cover designs and optional features, to match your process requirements.

Simplex Basket Strainer (Single Chamber) — A single-chamber design with one basket element. Flow is diverted during cleaning. This is the most economical option and is suitable for batch operations, non-continuous processes, or systems that can tolerate a brief flow interruption during scheduled strainer maintenance.

Duplex Basket Strainer (Dual Chamber) — A two-chamber design with two basket elements and a diverting valve (or switching valve) assembly. While one basket is in service, flow can be switched to the second chamber using the diverting valve, allowing the first basket to be removed, cleaned, and reinstalled — all without interrupting flow. Duplex basket strainers are essential for continuous, uninterrupted flow processes where any stoppage would cause production losses or safety hazards.

T Type Basket Strainer (Fabricated) — A T-shaped fabricated body variant, typically used for larger pipeline bore sizes, offering the same top-removal basket access and high dirt-holding capacity as a standard basket strainer in a fabricated T-configuration.

Jacketed Basket Strainer — For process fluids that solidify at ambient temperature (such as light diesel oil, fuel oil, or molten sulphur), a jacket around the strainer body allows heating medium circulation to keep the process fluid above its solidification point throughout cleaning cycles.

Magnetic Basket Strainer — Fitted with permanent magnets inside the basket chamber to separate and capture ferromagnetic particles from the process fluid, particularly suitable for steel plant, rolling mill, and mining industry applications where iron particles must be removed from cooling water or process streams.

Basket vs Simplex vs Duplex — Choosing the Right Configuration

Simplex (Single Chamber) Basket Strainer — Choose when your process can be briefly interrupted for strainer cleaning, or when you operate in batch mode. This is the most cost-effective configuration and covers the majority of general industrial filtration applications.

Duplex (Dual Chamber) Basket Strainer — Choose when your process must run continuously without any flow interruption during strainer cleaning. The dual chamber and diverting valve allow live switchover between baskets, making this the right choice for refineries, power plants, and pharmaceutical processes where stopping flow is not an option.

Key Features of Our Basket Strainer

Large dirt-holding capacity — The basket element provides significantly more filtration surface area than Y type or T type strainers, reducing cleaning frequency and extending run time between maintenance intervals.

Top-removal basket design — The basket lifts cleanly out from the top of the body with a handle, containing all collected debris and minimising spillage during maintenance.

Wide range of cover designs — Available with bolted covers, hinged covers, quick-opening covers, and davit-assisted lifting covers for larger, heavier baskets that require mechanical assistance for safe removal.

Multiple basket material options — SS304, SS304L, SS316, SS316L, Monel, and other alloys available to suit corrosive, high-purity, or high-temperature process fluids.

Customisable mesh and perforation sizes — Mesh sizes from 4 mesh (approximately 4.76mm opening) up to 800 mesh (approximately 0.017mm opening), as well as perforated plate basket options with 3mm to 6mm holes for coarser filtration.

Drain and flush connections — All basket strainers are supplied with drain plug connections as standard, with optional blow-down and flush valve connections for continuous-operation applications.

Permanent magnet option — Permanent magnets can be incorporated inside the basket chamber for simultaneous ferromagnetic particle removal from the process stream.

Wide size and pressure range — Available from 1 inch (25mm) to 80 inch (2000mm), for pressure ratings from PN10 up to PN250 (150# to 1500# ANSI), in both fabricated and cast body construction.

Frequently Asked Questions — Basket Strainer

What is a basket strainer used for?

A basket strainer is used to remove solid particles and foreign matter from liquid, gas, and steam pipelines, with higher dirt-holding capacity than a Y type strainer, protecting downstream pumps, heat exchangers, control valves, and process equipment from damage.

What is the difference between a simplex and duplex basket strainer?
A simplex basket strainer has a single chamber and requires brief flow interruption for basket cleaning. A duplex basket strainer has two chambers and a diverting valve, allowing live switchover between baskets so one can be cleaned while the other remains in service — maintaining uninterrupted flow at all times.

What is the difference between a basket strainer and a Y type strainer?
A basket strainer has a larger basket element with significantly higher dirt-holding capacity, is better suited for moderate to high solid loads, and has a top-removal basket for cleaner maintenance access.
