RTJ Gaskets

The ring type joint was initially developed for use in the petroleum industry, where high pressure/temperature applications necessitated the need for a high integrity seal. They are mainly used in the oil field on drilling and completion equipment. Ring type joints are also commonly used on valves and pipework assemblies, along with some high integrity pressure vessel joints.

RTJ Gaskets Supplier — Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Goa & Karnataka

Looking for a dependable RTJ Gaskets supplier for your high-pressure flange and valve applications? We manufacture and supply precision-machined Ring Type Joint gaskets to refineries, EPC contractors, valve manufacturers, and pipeline maintenance teams across Gujarat — including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Kachchh, Amreli, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Navsari, Godhra, and Palanpur — as well as Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and Karnataka.

Our RTJ gaskets are manufactured to API 6A and ASME B16.20 standards, providing a strong and durable metal-to-metal seal between mating ring type joint flanges. As the flanges are bolted together, the softer ring material is squeezed into the harder flange grooves, creating a tight, reliable seal even under extreme pressure and temperature conditions typical of oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation applications.

What Is an RTJ Gasket?

A Ring Type Joint (RTJ) Gasket provides a metal-to-metal seal between two mating RTJ flanges, used extensively in high-pressure, high-temperature piping systems across the oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation industries. Unlike soft gaskets used with flat or raised face flanges, an RTJ gasket is a precision-machined metal ring that sits inside a groove cut into the flange face. As the flanges are bolted together, the gasket — made from a metal softer than the flange — deforms and flows into the groove, creating an extremely tight and durable seal.

RTJ gaskets are essential in applications where conventional gaskets cannot withstand the operating conditions, including:

  • High-pressure oil field valves and wellhead equipment
  • Refinery and petrochemical process piping
  • Pipeline isolation valves in cross-country transmission systems
  • High-integrity pressure vessel joints
  • Power generation steam and boiler systems

Types of RTJ Gaskets We Supply

We manufacture and supply RTJ gaskets in all three standard styles, each designed for specific flange types and pressure ranges.

R Type RTJ Gasket (Oval & Octagonal) — The most common and widely used RTJ gasket style, manufactured in accordance with API 6A and ASME B16.20 to suit API 6B and ASME/ANSI B16.5 flanges. Available in oval cross-section (for older round-bottom grooves) and octagonal cross-section (for newer flat-bottom grooves, offering higher sealing efficiency). R type gaskets seal pressures up to 5,000 psi per API 6A and up to 6,250 psi per ASME B16.20, and are commonly used for valve covers and standard process flanges.

RX Type RTJ Gasket — A pressure-energised adaptation of the standard R octagonal gasket, designed to fit the same flat-bottomed groove and remain interchangeable with R-type rings. The RX design uses increased height and contained fluid pressure to improve sealing performance as internal line pressure rises, making it ideal for applications subject to pressure surges, vibration, or shock loading. Available in ring numbers from RX 20 to RX 215, suitable for pressures up to 15,000 psi.

BX Type RTJ Gasket — Engineered for the highest pressure systems, rated from 5,000 psi up to 20,000 psi, and used exclusively with API 6BX flanges. The square cross-section with bevelled corners allows virtual face-to-face contact between flanges, fully trapping the gasket on both inner and outer diameters. All BX gaskets include a pressure balance hole to equalise pressure trapped in the grooves, making them blowout-resistant. Available in ring numbers from BX 150 to BX 303.

    RTJ Gasket Material Options

Selecting the correct RTJ gasket material is critical — the gasket must always be softer than the mating flange material to ensure proper sealing without damaging the flange groove. We supply RTJ gaskets in the following grades:

Soft Iron — The most economical and widely used RTJ gasket material for general oil and gas service, electroplated with zinc for corrosion protection.

Carbon Steel — Used where slightly higher strength is required than soft iron, while remaining compatible with standard carbon steel flanges.

Stainless Steel 304 / 304L and 316 / 316L — Offers excellent corrosion resistance for process media handling corrosive fluids, commonly used in refinery and petrochemical applications.

Duplex 2205 and Super Duplex 2507 — High-strength, highly corrosion-resistant grades used in offshore, subsea, and aggressive service environments.

Monel, Inconel, and Hastelloy — Specialised alloy grades for extreme corrosion resistance in critical high-value applications.

Frequently Asked Questions — RTJ Gaskets

What is an RTJ gasket used for?

An RTJ (Ring Type Joint) gasket provides a metal-to-metal seal between two mating RTJ flanges, commonly used in high-pressure, high-temperature applications such as oil field valves, refinery process piping, pipeline isolation valves, and pressure vessel joints.

What is the difference between R, RX, and BX type RTJ gaskets?
R type is the original and most common RTJ gasket, available in oval or octagonal cross-section, sealing pressures up to 5,000–6,250 psi. RX type is a pressure-energised version of the R octagonal gasket that improves sealing as internal pressure increases, suitable up to 15,000 psi, and remains interchangeable with R-type grooves. BX type is designed for the highest pressure systems up to 20,000 psi, used exclusively with API 6BX flanges, and is not interchangeable with R or RX types.

What material should I choose for my RTJ gasket?
The RTJ gasket material must always be softer than the mating flange material to ensure proper sealing without damaging the flange groove. Common options include soft iron for general service, stainless steel 304/316 for corrosive media, and duplex or super duplex grades for offshore and aggressive environments.

Do you supply RTJ gaskets in Gujarat?
Yes. We supply across Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Kachchh, Amreli, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Navsari, Godhra, and Palanpur, with fast dispatch from our Gujarat facility.

Can I get RTJ gaskets delivered to Karnataka, Goa, Uttarakhand, or Jammu and Kashmir?
Yes. We regularly supply to Bengaluru, Mangalore in Karnataka; Panaji, Vasco da Gama in Goa; Dehradun, Haridwar in Uttarakhand; and Jammu, Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

    Can RTJ gaskets be reused?
No. RTJ gaskets deform permanently into the flange groove during installation to create the metal-to-metal seal, so they should not be reused once removed from service.

Do you provide material test certificates with RTJ gaskets?
Yes. We supply RTJ gaskets with full material traceability and EN 10204 3.1 material test certificates on request.
